I'm Tara Lee York, UX/UI Designer

Welcome to my piece of the internet. I believe that design is not making pretty websites or interfaces. Design is about coming up with solutions to business problems/users needs. This means you need to have a strategy behind every design and business decision you make.

I work with companies to take websites and UI designs from idea to prototype. My background as a former nurse has taught me the importance of paying attention to detail.

I started my professional journey as a health care professional because of my strong desire to help and care for others. During my time as an LPN and health care worker, I developed a strong sense of empathy for others through caring for the elderly and disabled. I learned that life is precious no matter your age or ability.

Why the transition to design? I have always enjoyed engaging both the creative and analytical parts of my brain. For a long time, I didn’t know how to combine the two into a career.  Finding design was the perfect mix of the two for me. My desire to help people has not changed. I intend to leverage my prior experience as a healthcare professional to bring a level of empathy and attention to detail that’s critical to making intuitive experiences for my clients.

I started my design training in 2013.  I have took a 1 year training to learn the basics of Adobe tools and gained a foundation understanding of design.  I was hooked from the start.  Since then I have completed to UX and UI training programs from Careerfoundry.  Currently, I am working as a UX/UI Tutor and Career Speacialist for Careerfoundry to help aspiring UX Designers get started on their professional journeys.

My writing from around the web.
